Painted Quilts and Trail Tours
In June 2014 Strathmore hosted “Let’s Make a Pitch”, an event that encouraged non-profits to pitch their ideas for beautifying the town. This opportunity, along with the beautiful Painted Quilts of Ontario and the Atlantic coast, inspired Sheila Konschuh to make a pitch and Sheila’s pitch won! This $10 000.00 prize has allowed Hope Bridges Society to host opportunities for any adult to experience the power of connection and community spirit that happens while painting uniquely beautiful quilts. Painting Workshops were facilitated by Johanna Jackins, and the painted quilts were installed by Clare Hagstrom of Fortis with assistance from Kevin Muenchrath of Tri-M Design.
“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Hope Bridges Society believes that our whole community is greater by connecting all its parts. Since winning the $10,000 prize from ‘Let’s Make a Pitch’ in 2014, Hope Bridges Society has hosted 14 workshops and created 14 unique and beautiful quilts all over the town. The last Painted Quilt titled ‘Making Connections’ is now being displayed at the new Town Office. ‘Making Connections’ symbolizes inclusion (all colours, all skills, all abilities), symbolizes community and care of those who are vulnerable, symbolizes change in life, in seasons, and symbolizes our county represented by the maple leaf.
